The nature of his involvement becomes apparent as the KGB becomes entangled with both the CIA and Israel’s Mossad. At a medical conference in Moscow in 1987, Dr. Vasily Bereshkov reveals the collaborator’s name to two Americans. Believed to have perished in the Holocaust, he actually survived and was taken to the Soviet Union. When the KGB learns that Bereshkov disclosed his real identity, an attempt is made to assassinate the Americans before they can inform the CIA.Dr. William Sandberg, a young American physician, is Schoenberg’s nephew. He is approached by a Mossad agent while flying to Israel to start a fellowship. He is asked to participate in an attempt to get his uncle out of the Soviet Union. Bill’s father is approached by the CIA for the same reason. He is assured that his brother survived and that he can assist in getting him to defect. As the CIA and Mossad try to assist the collaborator’s defection, the KGB leaves a path of death and destruction attempting to prevent it. From Washington to New York, Israel to Leningrad, and across Europe, this gripping tale of espionage and murder asks just how far we will go in bringing such men to justice.ABOUT THE AUTHOR:Stanley Bogaty is an ophthalmologist in Long Island, NY.
